Jon has approached Remi, and probably made it clear that he'd be willing to help with security in the future, if there were such a time when his help was needed. (He's been in charge of this kind of thing, he knows why you wouldn't want to take the newbies.)

He has also fixed a spear and not tried to hold on to it, is looking for a bow and arrows in purely hypothetical terms (essentially, he can shoot, but I doubt he can craft a bow), and is walking around casually armed to the teeth. He might unsheath the dagger purely for a practical reason (it's a tool, so he might have cut some of the material used to fix a spear with it, that kind of thing), but it was immediately put away afterward. He's probably giving off the impression of a guy who is comfortable around weapons and knows how to use them, but isn't immediately hot-tempered or eager to pull a knife.
