( There are a lot of implications surrounding this — feral for 2+ decades means she's likely eaten something or somebody alive, though if all humans were wiped out or changed it probably wasn't a person. She must not have learned to speak or read until that point, and knowing what little he does about the developmental stages of the human brain, that's probably a permanent divergence from your typical socially-raised child. Oxana Malaya was raised feral, in a sense — by dogs, from ages 3 to nearly 8. She did eventually learn to speak, to read, to adjust and live a normal life. She also freaked out a long-term boyfriend by doing an eerily accurate impression of a dog once, presumably terminating the relationship. Not exactly the most normal person.

It's not the same thing, not by a long shot, but it's an association in the back of his mind anyway.
