No NPC is likely to directly press Illumi into sharing his food — they don't want to put the thessyx off by seeming entitled, either — but it's clear that his behavior is not in the spirit of the community that has welcomed him in. Should he continue to be self-centered and not share what he has with the greater community, he will have a difficult time earning NPC cooperation. This means his bargain for information won't pan out — it'll only make people disdain him. No one wants to work with the guy who's extorting them with basic survival items!
However, no one will stop him from sensing what's inside the shell — as you may have concluded from the remainder of the log, it's full of gifts and food! Nothing terribly exciting.
