General

The Thessyx have just arrived. Childe has had the meeting with them and Balthier and Varric, and the feast has happened. In a show of good faith and welcoming, the Hatchlings put on a talent show for the thessyx and for their hosts. Anyone may sign up or attend. There are about two days' time for rehearsals or recruiting audience members and act assistance.

Alina has volunteered to have the theater put on a performance of the play they were already rehearsing. Trish volunteered to be the closing number with a musical performance. All other acts are up to the Hatchlings or any townspeople who want to participate. There is a quickly rigged gallery for anyone wanting to make visual art or technology.

Balthier will be inviting the thessyx to vote for their favorite act at the end of the night.

01 Rehearsals

Two days isn't a lot of time, but better something than nothing! Maybe you need to practice your act, or maybe you need to recruit someone to help you. Or maybe you're trying to avoid all the off-key singing and bad juggling that seems to suddenly be happening all over camp.

02 Performance

Aaaaand you're up next! Break a leg!

03 Audience

Either for love of theater or love of people embarrassing themselves, you're here to watch the show, maybe with some moonshine from the feast. There are a decent number of seats, but the show attracts more people as it goes on, so you might find yourself in standing room only -- or maybe you press up to the front of the stage to be really supportive.

04 Tech Crew

Performing isn't your thing, but maybe lights, props, crowd control, sound, or stage managing. Can't have a show without the stage crew!

05 Gallery

It reminds you of a low-grade parking lot art sale (or your world's equivalent). Some crudely assembled tents and display space, a few plywood or propped metal walls. You're welcome to display your creation and show it off, or just let it speak for itself.

That's how I got started too, working on a ship. Alas I'm too much of a diva to stay a crewman.

[ He flashes a winning smile. He's told this story a thousand times and always enjoys the range of reactions. ]

Stole a ship, mustered a crew, sailed the skies. Ever considered leadership? [ Aka piracy. ]

[spalten]

That just means you made sure that the crew is lively and motivated, which is always a valuable skill.

[ as for his question, vidar shakes his head. ] I'm not fond of the leadership role. I like being able to do things on my own.

[ more like a lone insurgent than anything else. ]

Always appeal in that. [ Balthier says it, but he knows he's always preferred partners to solo. This is new for him, and not having a partner is still a strange wound. ]

[spalten]

Are you planning to grab a crew here?

[ for one reason or another. maybe for expeditions, maybe for company. ]

[portolan]

Always good to have one handy. Or five. Better survival odds.

[ Truth be told he's craving the more social kind, the ones you can depend on and talk late in the night with, but he's no fool; that kind takes months to cultivate. ]

Yourself?

[spalten]

[ he shakes his head. ]

Friends, sure. Company's always nice.

But I'm not seeking a repeat of the types I was around before I got here - there are just some people you shouldn't be with for far too long.

[ and there are some you can't let go of when you probably should, and vidar is like that. when he reclaims his real name he will still be like that and he will regret it, but that's fine. when he reclaims his real name he will be looking forward to his death anyway, so maybe it's for the best he's not in any position to be there right now. ]

[portolan]

Cheers to that. [ Balthier completely abandoned his home close to a decade ago trying to get away from certain people.

He realizes, with a pang, that that may be forever now. Partly for being a hatchling. Partly for having killed his father hours before he was whisked away. ]

Besides. I like being so highly sought after. Magick. Engineering skills. Healer. Voice like a thunderstorm. Talent show coordinator. I'm in high demand.

[spalten]

It's a rather impressive list, I'll give you that. [ he gives a short laughter. ]

You must come from somewhere rather entertaining, to be so skilled. Home is rather boring for me.

[portolan]

[ Balthier enjoys showing off, obviously, but the real victory is when his conversation partner starts to share their own stories. ]

Oh? Tell me more about it.

[ He's vaguely recalls something about a giant robot but he hasn't actually seen it and isn't 100% sure it was Vidar's. ]

[spalten]

[ vidar ponders the question, thinking about how best to describe his situation, until he settles with, ]

The world is divided into several factions and one planet has more resources and military power than the other and maintains economic and political control. I work for that faction. We maintain order throughout our territories, whether in space or on the ground.

As you can probably imagine, we're not well-liked.

[portolan]

I was also from the more powerful faction with economic and political control, and a conquest campaign to boot.

[ Unpopular is an understatement. ]

But I'm a pirate at heart, so I deserted, switched sides, and helped the Dalmascan princess unseat the Empire. Couldn't have made my family less proud.

[spalten]

Is that so?

[ he would never. in fact, faced with the possibility that gjallarhorn is more corrupt than he could accept, vidar - gaelio, really - would never accept the possibility of giving up his privileges within it. ]

I'm too comfortable where I am to do anything that drastic. [ he looks at him curiously. ] But you seem to be happier for it.
