◣ OPEN ◢ TALENT SHOW
WHO: The Children of the Leviathan (All PCs)
WHAT: A Talent Show for the Thessyx
WHEN: The week the Thessyx arrive (backdate June 10-17)
WHERE: Basecamp -- stage at the theater
NOTES/WARNINGS: No cw currently. Please feel free to write your own top levels!
General
The Thessyx have just arrived. Childe has had the meeting with them and Balthier and Varric, and the feast has happened. In a show of good faith and welcoming, the Hatchlings put on a talent show for the thessyx and for their hosts. Anyone may sign up or attend. There are about two days' time for rehearsals or recruiting audience members and act assistance.
Alina has volunteered to have the theater put on a performance of the play they were already rehearsing. Trish volunteered to be the closing number with a musical performance. All other acts are up to the Hatchlings or any townspeople who want to participate. There is a quickly rigged gallery for anyone wanting to make visual art or technology.
Balthier will be inviting the thessyx to vote for their favorite act at the end of the night.
01 Rehearsals
Two days isn't a lot of time, but better something than nothing! Maybe you need to practice your act, or maybe you need to recruit someone to help you. Or maybe you're trying to avoid all the off-key singing and bad juggling that seems to suddenly be happening all over camp.
02 Performance
Aaaaand you're up next! Break a leg!
03 Audience
Either for love of theater or love of people embarrassing themselves, you're here to watch the show, maybe with some moonshine from the feast. There are a decent number of seats, but the show attracts more people as it goes on, so you might find yourself in standing room only -- or maybe you press up to the front of the stage to be really supportive.
04 Tech Crew
Performing isn't your thing, but maybe lights, props, crowd control, sound, or stage managing. Can't have a show without the stage crew!
05 Gallery
It reminds you of a low-grade parking lot art sale (or your world's equivalent). Some crudely assembled tents and display space, a few plywood or propped metal walls. You're welcome to display your creation and show it off, or just let it speak for itself.

[ Despite his conspicuous clothing, voice like a "velvet thunderstorm", and penchant for storytelling, Balthier doesn't actually like to perform in the traditional stage sense. Too much attention all at once; not enough opportunities to step out.
But he figures as the organizer of this variety show -- and as one of the ambassadors to the thessyx -- he should probably participate. They already have a singer and a theater performance, so he's decided that, for variety sake, he's going to do a formal waltz. But he's going to need a partner, and he's going to need someone who can either play or digitally provide music.
He's posted a "dance partner wanted" sign outside the theater while he helps other acts set up and oversees the gallery being constructed. If you're interested, he should be very easy to find. ]
Tech Crew
[ The stage is decently equipped, but it's usually outfitted for theater, not a variety show. Still, people have come together to rig up some extra lights, sounds, and backdrops. It's not so different from prepping an airship.
Balthier is up on the rafters adjusting a light that was out. ]
How's that?
Gallery
[ Balthier peruses the makeshift gallery in the intermission between the play and the next acts. He was pleasantly surprised by how many of the Hatchlings and Adamant folk contributed art. There's everything from macaroni glued to paper to fine drawings and oil paintings to interesting contraptions.
He saw most of it come in but missed some of the latecomers. He's currently standing in front of a large piece of plywood stained with paint, on top of which a cattle-like skull is mounted to an old tire. link. ]
Wonder where they've been storing that.
Wildcard
Feel free to hit me up with anything of your choice, or discord/PM me!
no subject
Can you see if you can manoeuvre the light to centre-stage?
[ just for the actors and actresses they have. there's not a lot in terms of what they can use for set design and production but they make do and mostly everyone is well-versed in repairs.
vidar isn't, not really. he's just here to help coordinate things. ]

The pivot on the light sticks. He moves it back and forward again. Same spot. He adjusts his weight, applying pressure from a different angle. It lurches with a groan, going briefly into position before shorting out. ]
Well that's not what I was hoping for.
no subject
[ he'll give the director a wave, just to explain things are a bit delayed. ]
Careful up there, I can smell something burning from here.
no subject
[ He gets the thing turned off and the back pried off. He's handy -- he did rebuild and mod most of his ship -- but he keeps forgetting that wiring here is entirely electrical. He's more used to working with Mist-based hybrids. Still, the basic concepts are the same. He digs through, and sure enough, a connection is frayed. ]
Do we have anything to patch a cable?
no subject
How does clay sound?
[ mumbling to himself - ] I thought I saw an electrical tape here.
no subject
I was thinking more along the lines of extra wire covering or a waterproof adhesive. Some plant materials work.
[ Balthier cuts the power to this light, lest it start a fire, and climbs down the ladder. ]
Tell you what, we could check the Aid Station. I'm about due for a round there.
no subject
[ a sigh. ]
That might be for the best.
I'll take a walk with you - I think we've been here far too long.
[ he's covered in glitter and god knows what else is in the costumes, he's been on his feet for far too long. ]
no subject
He's hungry, now that he thinks about it. He'll be exhausted tonight and even moreso tomorrow. But if he's honest, it's been nice to be too busy to think. Ever since the Thessyx came, his nightmares have gotten worse. The only thing that helps is being too tired to think.
His stomach lets out a growl loud enough to hear. ]
Perhaps the mess hall afterwards?
no subject
I've some spare chocolate for dessert, if you want to indulge with me.
[ mess hall doesn't sound appealing considering, well, it's the mess hall, but it's nice to have something to look forward to beyond just more of the same work. ]
no subject
[ Balthier has not had a scone, tea, or chocolate since he arrived here, and before that he hadn't had any real food (not the traveller's tack they were forced to survive on, especially with Fran saving her energy and thus not hunting) since they'd left the port days before. ]
You don't have to ask me twice.
no subject
That ship is huge. [ vidar slips his hands in his pockets thoughtfully as they make the trip. ] And most of its wreck has been salvaged, but that doesn't mean there isn't more to see.
That being said, it'll take a lot of people to cover every inch of it, and it's likely dangerous now. Three years is enough time for certain creatures to make a house out of it. A friend and I went in and there was vermin everywhere. Who knows what's hiding in its nook and crannies?
But we also managed to bring back some supplies. It makes me hopeful to see what else does it have.
no subject
[ There are all sorts of practical reasons to make it out there, but Balthier can't help but think about the prospect of actual tea. ]
no subject
There're a few crates in there that have useable rations. Mind you, they're probably long expired - three years is a long time to actually be there - but so long as they're still edible, then that's all we need.
I don't know how many of the crates are still there, but the last time I went with a buddy, we found a few things including seasonings and the chocolate.
no subject
Certainly let me know if you need an extra pair of hands next time.
no subject
[ he thinks back to the trip there thoughtfully. ] I'll admit I'm not the most interested about this world. There is plenty to discover, true, but the fact of the matter is if we want to get out of here, we should probably deal with that dragon and the Adamant.
Magic's not my forte, so the problem of the Adamant has become ... somewhat of a fascination for me, I suppose.
no subject
Are you a shipman then? At home, I considered myself all mechanic and engineer. Apparently here I'm higher on the magic ladder. Not a lot of other worlds with both, it seems.
no subject
And I'm not really anything like that, just someone who used to be part of a crew and have worked in a ship for a while; so I'm familiar with what it's supposed to look like, and have, in general terms for the layout.
no subject
[ He flashes a winning smile. He's told this story a thousand times and always enjoys the range of reactions. ]
Stole a ship, mustered a crew, sailed the skies. Ever considered leadership? [ Aka piracy. ]
no subject
[ as for his question, vidar shakes his head. ] I'm not fond of the leadership role. I like being able to do things on my own.
[ more like a lone insurgent than anything else. ]
no subject
no subject
[ for one reason or another. maybe for expeditions, maybe for company. ]
no subject
[ Truth be told he's craving the more social kind, the ones you can depend on and talk late in the night with, but he's no fool; that kind takes months to cultivate. ]
Yourself?
no subject
Friends, sure. Company's always nice.
But I'm not seeking a repeat of the types I was around before I got here - there are just some people you shouldn't be with for far too long.
[ and there are some you can't let go of when you probably should, and vidar is like that. when he reclaims his real name he will still be like that and he will regret it, but that's fine. when he reclaims his real name he will be looking forward to his death anyway, so maybe it's for the best he's not in any position to be there right now. ]
no subject
He realizes, with a pang, that that may be forever now. Partly for being a hatchling. Partly for having killed his father hours before he was whisked away. ]
Besides. I like being so highly sought after. Magick. Engineering skills. Healer. Voice like a thunderstorm. Talent show coordinator. I'm in high demand.
no subject
You must come from somewhere rather entertaining, to be so skilled. Home is rather boring for me.
no subject
Oh? Tell me more about it.
[ He's vaguely recalls something about a giant robot but he hasn't actually seen it and isn't 100% sure it was Vidar's. ]
no subject
The world is divided into several factions and one planet has more resources and military power than the other and maintains economic and political control. I work for that faction. We maintain order throughout our territories, whether in space or on the ground.
As you can probably imagine, we're not well-liked.
no subject
[ Unpopular is an understatement. ]
But I'm a pirate at heart, so I deserted, switched sides, and helped the Dalmascan princess unseat the Empire. Couldn't have made my family less proud.
no subject
[ he would never. in fact, faced with the possibility that gjallarhorn is more corrupt than he could accept, vidar - gaelio, really - would never accept the possibility of giving up his privileges within it. ]
I'm too comfortable where I am to do anything that drastic. [ he looks at him curiously. ] But you seem to be happier for it.
